how we started ghost research

Well where do I start, from the beginning of course .

My name is Ashley. It all started when I was sixteen.
I was a boy of sound mind and body. I did not believe in UFO's, ghosts, or anything paranormal.

Then one day my life dramatically changed.......... woosh I woke up in a room that I did not know nor recognise.

The bed the sheets, the walls and a clock were white
when I came round.

I looked at my hands and at that time and I didn't know how to use them and what you called them.

What had happened I had no clue. I didn't even know why I was there or what my name was. Am I dead or alive ?
About two weeks later my memory returned slowly. I was in hospital. I was told I had been in an accident involving my push bike. The sister on the ward informed me that I had died twice, once in the ambulance and again in resus.
Anyway two months after the accident I was back at my flat. I shared my flat with two other people.

As I grew up in care my flat was an annexe attached to the children's care home I had lived in. It is a transition home for children aged 16/17.

On one particular weekend I was on my own in the flat.
My flat mates had gone out for the weekend so I put the key in the lock and turned the key locking the flat door from the inside so no one could get in.

It was a Saturday afternoon. Even though the weather was great, nice and sunny, at about 2pm I was bored and fed up so I went to bed. In my room there was one bed, one chest of draws,one single wardrobe, and a chair.

I had just got into bed when I heard a voice say to me go down stairs and look in a drawer. I pulled a blanket off the bed and got a shock off it. I wrapped it around me and went downstairs and looked in the drawer in the kitchen. I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for but I did as was instructed by the voice I heard.

I went back to the bedroom and locked the door behind me, got back into the bed and said to this voice its OK its there .

I then thought wait a minute I'm on my own so who am I talking too. I looked under the bed, no one there, I looked in the wardrobe, no one there. I checked the whole flat, and I was right I was on my own.At that time I thought I was going do-lally? Was I loosing my marble's?

Nothing happened for about three months - then things got worse and aggressive .

One evening I was with a friend in Sheffield. It was 11pm and I'd missed the last bus for the night. We lived at opposite ends of Sheffield and there was no way for me to get home so I went back to my friend and asked to stay at his house for the night.
I was to sleep in his spare room. I had just turned out the light then as I got into the bed I saw a black figure standing at the bottom of the bed. The Shadow reached out for my ankles and started pulling me down to the bottom of the bed. I was terrified, only part dressed and frozen stiff. At this point I shot up quickly and the shadow let go of my ankles. It then went into a crouching position on its hands and knees.

The feeling at this time that he was not a pleasant person but something sinister or evil.
Then this figure crawled to the side of the bed and just waited there. To me it seemed like a couple of hours. I was frozen, couldn't move, scared stiff if you need to know .

When faced with this terrifying encounter you have a choice, you can start to try to get up enough courage to fight or run away.
I chose to fight and went for the figure. To my shock it was just a pile of clothes ......
but when I looked at my ankles there were purple finger marks where I was grabbed. Also it must be noted that the positioning of the finger marks proved that someone or something had to have grabbed me.
Due to growing up in care I had a social worker who I showed the bruises to. My social worker was concerned and took me to the doctors.
The bruises were photographed by a Sheffield doctor who then called in the police. The bruises were horrific. The doctor informed South Yorkshire police at the time just after the encounter with the entity.
I thought I was nuts and so did everyone else. No-one believed my explanations of how these bruises appeared on my body and clearly didn't know what to do. To them I guess it was inconceivable that an entity even existed let alone attack me. The doctor referred me to a psychiatrist, who after some sessions said that there was nothing mentally wrong with me and referred me to a medium.
The medium advised me that when I had died it had opened up channels to the other side.

So it all started there. The voices that I heard and the figures that I encountered
were spirits from the other side. It has been going on ever since.
First I had to come to terms with it ,then I had to control it. To this day I cant fathom out why i was involved and why not some one else.
Once you come to to terms with it you have to learn to control the things you see and hear.

the GHOST HUNTER'S GUIDEBOOK conducting your own, see the GHOST HUNTER'S GUIDEBOOK Once you know what to take with you and where to go, let me give you a few hints that might help you out when you get to the haunted spot.

1. Never Trespass on private property This rule is especially true at private residences and always be careful around vandalized cemeteries that are closed at night. Many of these places are posted, so always get permission first.

2. Never go alone Forget about the chances of being murdered, abducted, or getting lost, it is always a good idea to take someone on an investigation with you. Another person, or preferably more than one, will most likely see something that you may not. It is always good to have independent corroboration of a site.

3. Keep your perceptions clear If you are going on a long, or overnight, investigation, bring along something to eat and drink. Try to avoid anything that might have a strong odor or could impair your senses like alcohol. You will also want to avoid smoking as this can interfere with your sense of smell and your photography.

4. Let someone know where you are going It is common sense to leave word with someone as to the investigation site....but be careful who you tell, you just might have a friend who likes to play practical jokes.

5. Always do research first...Before you investigate a site, try to find out as much about it as you can. Go to the library and check out the history of the place. Ask around and see if anyone knows any old stories about the place. You might surprised to find the cause of the haunting is part of the location's history or linked to a former owner.

6. Arrive with skepticism While you should maintain an open mind, remember that the place may not be haunted. Always do your homework first and know what to look for to see if the place has ghosts or natural explanations.

7. False Readings Be careful that you learn to use your equipment properly before going to the investigation site. Always rule out all natural sources for EMF readings before you assume it is a ghost.

8. Proper use of your camera Use you camera with care and make sure that the mechanisms are clean and that there is no dust on the lens. Make sure that you don't fire a camera flash into a mirror or highly reflective object and that there is nothing protruding in front of the lens...like a finger. And for goodness sake, be sure of where your camera strap is at all times! I make it a rule with any researchers that l investigate with....if your camera strap does not go around your neck, then remove it prior to the investigation. Researchers that come to an investigation with loose wrist straps on their cameras are not allowed to participate!

9. Witnesses... Make sure that the witness at the location, if there is one, is comfortable with the situation and understands what you are doing in your investigation. Make sure they understand the equipment and why you are taking some many photos..etc. You may run into a situation where a natural cause can be found for the "haunting" (banging water pipe, the wind, or whatever) and you have to be careful how you explain this to the witness. Some of them will be relieved that they don't have ghosts but if it is not handled right, some could feel that you think they were lying in the first place. Always explain the reasons why you think the activity has a normal cause, and if possible, demonstrate this fact for them. On rare occasions, you will meet a witness who is actually lying, or at least imagines what they are telling you is the truth. This is also a situation that must be handled carefully and I suggest following the same procedures and explaining why you feel the haunting has a natural cause.

10. After the Investigation - Remember that you may not turn up anything in your investigation. It does not mean the location is not haunted. If you have tracked down any natural sources for reported phenomena and ruled them out, then perhaps the ghost was not active during your visit. This is the reason why follow-up calls and repeat visits are important

If you have managed to build a good relationship with a witness, then they will not mind hearing from you again. Be sure they are willing to call if anything else happens. It is also important that you keep a log or write a report about each investigation, even if it has a natural cause. The report should give a detailed account and have input about everything that you did. and remember look after your team.

Information on Ghosts When dealing with ghosts
don't look for any rules or absolutes.
There are circumstances that seem to create a more ghostly atmosphere,
but there are no guarantees on predicting when and where a ghost will appear.
A ghost may appear once in a hundred years or once every Tuesday.
It could haunt a house or dwell in a small spot in an open field.
Even with the perfect conditions for a ghost
it doesn't mean that one will ever show up.
In fact, even the ghost's appearance doesn't seem to follow any special pattern.

Sometimes a ghost is nothing more than a sharp chill felt on your body.
In other cases the ghosts cannot be distinguished from a living person.
Ghosts can also be in the forms of animals,
headless bodies or even as simple
as a single ghostly hand carrying a book down a dark hallway.
Ghosts have been known to interact with the living
or just make acknowledgment with a quick glance or eye contact.
In other accounts the ghost seems unaware
of the presence of living people
and appears to be acting out some part of their own life.
When it comes to ghost hunting
the only rule is be ready for anything.

Some Helpful Definitions:

Ghost: Soul, Spirit, Demon.
The disembodied spirit of a dead person,
conceived of an appearing to the living as a pale,
shadowy apparition.

Phantom:

Something that seems to appear

to the sight but has no physical exsistance;

Apparition, Vision, Spector.

Something to be feared or deaded.

Wraith:

Guardian; a ghost. Spectral figure of a person

Poltergeist:

Responsible for mysterious noisy disturbances

Haunt: Visit often or continually. Frequented by ghosts.

Ghosts make friends with other ghosts from different eras. If you hear a strange whisper in your ear when sleeping, it is probably a ghost. Ghosts do not sleep. Ghosts like to climb up and down stairs at night. Most ghosts can't or won't hurt you. Animals can see or sense spirits, that's why you often see them just staring intensely at what appears to be nothing. If you are being haunted, if you simply ask them to leave, they will. Say something like "I know you are here but you are scaring me please leave." When a ghost enters a room, the room usually gets cold. Animal ghosts exist and have been sighted. Ghosts who lived hundreds of years ago keep up with the trends. Children perceive ghosts as imaginary friends.

A hooded black smoky figure is a dark entity and you should be careful around them. They usually appear at the foot of beds. Some alleged hauntings are actually a "residue," which is a past event that replays itself over and over. Certain places are portals or vortexes where ghosts transport themselves. Hauntings are most intense around children entering puberty, as kids this age are emitting immense amounts of energy. Ghosts can read your thoughts. Ghosts retain all the memories and emotions of their lives. Sometimes ghosts are trapped and need to be released. Let them know they can move on. Noisy, troublesome ghosts are known as poltergeists.

HOW DEMONS GAIN CONTROL Demons gain control in several ways: 1. Through generations: Demons may oppress or possess a person because of previous possession or oppression of the parents. This accounts for demonic influence over children (Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Deuteronomy 5:9). 2. Through the mind: The mind is one of the major battlefields of Satan. If Satan can control your thoughts, he will eventually control your actions. Lack of mental control eventually results in lack of use of the will. This leads to sinful actions. Continuing in sinful thoughts and actions can lead from oppression to possession and finally to a reprobate mind such as is described in Romans l. This is a mind totally controlled by evil thoughts. Demons also gain access through mind-altering drugs which reduce the ability to resist demons and grant increasing access. "Brain washing" or "mind control" teaching also provides an entrance point. 3. Through sinful actions: Sinful thoughts are soon fulfilled by sinful actions. For example, the thought of adultery is fulfilled in the actual act of adultery. Sin is rebellion, and rebellious thoughts and actions provides an entry point for demonic activity. When a believer continues in sinful thoughts or actions they "give place" to the Devil (Ephesians 4:27). More spiritual room is given for the operation of the enemy. Sins of involvement with the occult, including objects, literature, seances, etc., are actions which are especially dangerous and attract demonic powers. An unbeliever who lives in sin is open not only to oppression of demonic powers, but also possession. As you have learned, there is no neutral ground in spiritual warfare. You are either on the side of good or evil. You belong either to God or Satan. If you belong to Satan and have not experienced the new birth in Jesus Christ, then you are his to use, oppress, or possess as he wills. 4. Through desire: Some people desire and request of Satan to be under the control of demons powers. They do this for purposes of having supernatural power or performing supernatural acts. 5. Through an empty "house": Demons consider the body of the person they inhabit as their house (Matthew 12:44). When a person who has been delivered from demonic powers does not fill his spiritual house with the new birth experience and the infilling of the Holy Spirit, reentry may occur. 6. Through permission: Sometimes God grants permission for activities of demonic powers to accomplish special purposes. This can be allowed as a trial of believers as in the case of Job. It can also be judgment for sin as in the case of King Saul.

Vortex, funnel ghosts Appearance & Characteristics:
Avortex is a very strange and mysterious phenomena. They usually take on the appearance of a swirling funnel shape when moving about. They can also appear in pictures as being long and narrow and having a tread like design within their body. They are readily confused with a speeding orb when they slow down and take on this straight & narrow look. It's not presently known if a vortex has ever been captured on video tape. It should be noted that they are often felt as a cold spot. Locations spotted:
They are most often spotted inside homes & old buildings. At times they can also be spotted outdoors but that is very rare. Speculations:
There are many theories as to what vortices are exactly, including a visiting relative or a former resident of the home. It is also believed by some that it is a vehicle to transport spirits in the shape of orbs from their realm to ours. Picture: Long husky vortex

Shadow ghosts, dark entities Appearance & Characteristics:
These ghosts usually appear as a shadow of sorts. They look a bit like Ecto-mist but with form and are normally reported to be two feet in length or longer and tend to travel at a height of two to ten feet. In photographs it's easy to confuse them with natural shadows so be careful. They are usually sneaky and evasive. When they are spotted it's usually out of the corner of your eye or as they are darting through a wall. They are often spotted in a mirror as well. Locations spotted:
Most often spotted in homes. Have also been seen outdoors at a distance. Speculations:
I guess the general consensus would be that they are ghosts in one of their forms. Some would say that they are demonic spirits but that doesn't seem to be the case. See the demonic spirits category for more on that.

Ectoplasm, Ecto-mist, vapor, ghostly mist Appearance & Characteristics: Cloudy vaporous mist
The term was originally used to describe the substance that oozed from spirit mediums during a séance from days gone by. It is now associated and referred to as a mist or fog, and it usually displays a swirl effect within a vaporous cloud. It normally appears several feet off the ground and can linger or travel quickly at will. It's usual colors are gray, white or black but has also been seen and photographed in several other colors. Ecto has been caught on both video & all types of cameras. It's important to note however, that a camera can inadvertently create this effect artificially in cold weather by a person exhaling to close to the lens when taking the picture. The exhaled breath looks similar to ectoplasm but without the swirls. Oh, and we certainly don't want to be smoking during a ghost hunt for obvious reasons. Locations spotted:
All locations but most generally spotted outdoors and most particularly at cemeteries, battlefields & historical sites. Speculations:
Believed by many to be the soul or spirit of those that have passed on from this life. It has been speculated that the spirit will transform to this vaporous state before appearing as a full-bodied apparition. Picture: Ecto-mist with lot's of great looking swirls

ONE DAY WE HAD A TELEPHONE CALL FROM A LADY
SHE WAS ABOUT 73 YEARS OF AGE , AND HER HUSBAND WAS 57 YEARS OF AGE

. THEY HAVE BEEN LIVING TOGETHER FOR YEARS BUT THEY HAD FELL OUT OF LOVE,
ONE DAY SHE WAS IN THE BATH AND AS SHE LAY THERE SHE NOTICED A BAR OF SOAP

SO IT MADE A HUGE CRASH ON THE FLOOR , SO HER HUSBAND WOULD COME RUSHING IN AND SEE HER IN THE BATH
AND REKINDLE THERE LOVE .......

Story 2: The Voice Saved the Baby

Tammy Cook will forever be convinced that there are guardian angels or some higher power watching over us. In August, 1994, Tammy was caring for her two children: five-year-old Jimmy and two-year-old Curtis. Tammy's husband Dale was away on a fishing weekend with some co-workers. She had just fed the two boys dinner and allowed them to watch a little TV before bedtime while she washed the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen. They were being very quiet, Tammy was thinking to herself, when little Curtis staggered into the kitchen with his arms outstretched. His eyes were wide with fear and he opened and closed his mouth in obvious discomfort. Something was very wrong with her little two-year old. As she picked him up, the small boy fell limp in her arms.

Panic washed over Tammy. She quickly loosened his clothing and looked for any sign that he had fallen or hit his head. Then Tammy felt a sharp slap on her back and heard a voice - a distinct, deep male voice that ordered her to turn the little boy upside-down and clear his throat. "Quickly," the voice commanded, "If you wish to save your son's life, hold his head down and put your finger down his throat."

What was happening, she wondered. She felt another sharp slap on her back, and again the voice demanded, "Hurry! To save your son's life, you must act now!" Tammy obeyed the voice. Following its instructions, she managed to clear a lump of pink clay from Curtis's throat. The boy took a deep, life-restoring breath and began to cry. Tammy asked Jimmy, who had been standing in the kitchen doorway watching the dramatic scene, if he had heard the voice that was so loud and clear to her. He had not. And later that night, as Tammy prepared for a relaxing bath, she caught her image in the bathroom mirror and could see reddened welts on her shoulders where she had been slapped by the unknown presence. She could make out the imprints of what looked like human fingers.

Voices cry out from the grave, sometimes to warn, sometimes to plea, sometimes just to let us know they are there. On May, 2001, Robert and Kimberly Stark moved into their new home, a modest ranch in Modesto, California. It was their first house and they were more than happy to settle in with their 7-month-old daughter. But they were soon to find out they were not the only three occupants in the house. Late at night, Kimberly would be awakened by a baby's cry. Naturally, she would get up and go to the adjacent nursery... only to find daughter Susan sound asleep. This happened night after night, three or four nights a week. At first, Robert did not really believe Kim's claims because he had never been awakened by the baby cries in the night.

He chalked it up to new-mother jitters, a theory that was confirmed to him when Kim moved Susan's crib into their bedroom.

Robert changed his mind that night when both he and Kim were awakened by a baby's cry. They could see that Susan was asleep, but the faint crying continued. They got up and searched the house. They could tell the crying was somewhere in the house, but could not pinpoint its origin; it was as if it were coming from everywhere at once. The mystery was solved, at least in part, several weeks later when Robert was renovating the basement, which he hoped to turn into a rec room. Behind some cheap wood paneling were the skeletal remains of a small baby. A police investigation has not yet solved the crime, but the Starks no longer hear the phantom baby's cries in the night.

Story 3: The Blood-Seeking UFO

What is the alien agenda? Those who believe "they" are here often ask this question. What do the occupants of UFOs want? Blood perhaps? That seems to be the case in this strange report dating back to March, 1967. A Red Cross Bloodmobile was traveling on Highway 2 along the Ohio River. Driver Beau Shertzer and a nurse were on their way to Red Cross headquarters in Huntington, West Virginia with their cargo of newly collected human blood. It was very early morning, still dark and raining. Suddenly, a large glowing object rose from behind a hill and headed toward the Bloodmobile. It matched the vehicle's speed and flew directly over it as it drove down the otherwise deserted road. Shertzer rolled down his window and looked up at the UFO.

it was just a few feet above the truck. He later testified that he was horrified to see some kind of mechanical arm extending from the bottom of the ship. The nurse could see a second arm descending on her side. It was as if the UFO intended to grab the Bloodmobile in its mechanical arms... and do what?

The nurse began to scream and Shertzer floored the gas pedal. But the UFO kept up with them. Then Shertzer saw the headlights of another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. Only then did the UFO retract its mechanical arms and quickly fly off.

Story 4: The Ghost Who Named Her Murderer

The body of Teresita Basa was found by police in her Chicago apartment on February 21, 1977. The 48-year old Filipino immigrant was dead -- stabbed to death and partially burned. She hadn't shown up for work at the Edgewater Hospital, leading police to find her murdered body, but they had no clues at all as to who the murderer might be. There was no evidence, no motive to work from. Then a lead came from an astonishing source: Teresita's ghost! Dr. Jose Chua and his wife worked at the same hospital, although they did not know Teresita very well. One night while at home, Mrs. Chua suddenly fell into a strange trance. Speaking in a Philippine language, she said, "I am Teresita Basa..." and then named the man who murdered her: an orderly at the hospital named Allen Showery.

The Chuas didn't know what to make of these trances, which reoccurred for several days.

Finally, Dr. Chua felt compelled to call the police and tell them the strange story. Naturally, the detectives were highly skeptical of the Chua's claims, even though Mrs. Chua seemed able to relate specific details about the crime, including the allegation that her jewelry was also stolen, and that Showery had given her pearl cocktail ring to his girlfriend. With no other leads to go on, the detectives investigated Showery. Sure enough, Teresita's jewelry was found in his apartment; her pearl ring was found in the possession of his girlfriend -- just as Teresita's ghost had said. Showery confessed to the crimes and was convicted.

	There are different anomalies which may show up in your ghost picture. Some of the most common are as follows... 1) Orbs – round spheres of light that can be caused by flash reflection off of reflective surfaces, dust, glass, insects, moisture, etc. Of course, many believe that some orbs are “spirit…maybe even the souls of people. They have been captured in movement with a vapor trail; and have also been photographed with super-bright (often orange) energy – called “super-charged orbs.” Orbs caused by flash reflection will often have a “halo” or spokes radiating out from the center of it; but then again who knows the source of all anomalies? Are all things easily determined? Not so in all cases. 2) Ectoplasm – smoke-like, fog that is not usually visible to the naked eye, but appears in the ghost picture. Many believe this to be “spirit” captured in picture. Of course, it is possible for cigarette smoke, fog or even breath from the photographer to sometimes reproduce this effect. So, one must be aware of this when taking ghost pictures - especially in cold weather. 3) Vortexes (vortices) – “funnel-shaped” energy usually encompassed or comprised of ectoplasm. Some believe this to perhaps be a portal or opening between the spiritual and physical worlds. Others believe these to be nothing more than the camera strap having been accidentally photographed. Many times a Camera Strap gets into the photograph by accident and looks similar. 4) Dark Shadows - Black ectoplasm also called shadow people by some. These have been witnessed moving and even dancing around rooms and could indicate the condition of the person's soul as darkness (lack of understanding - lost). 5) Apparitions – the Holy Grail of ghost pictures; capturing a full-bodied spirit in a “see-through” human form. These are rare, and some ghost hunters maintain they are not possible to capture, but just a Hollywood movie version of what a ghost looks like. 6) Super-Charged Energy - streaks of "lightning-looking" anomalies in pictures. For all you ghost enthusiasts everywhere in Essex this hotel is haunted in a certain place of the hotel , the hotel is three hundred
years old . and is a grade two building

there has been a old lady sighted walking about the place
the hotel is in perfect surrounding's for activity situated next to a church grave yard.
in the hotel room five is favourite that people wont stay overnight this is a perfect opportunity to try for all you ghost researchers around Essex

this beautiful backdrop next to a river is great for activity spotters
some of the staff say they heard and seen things at times
so why don't you book in to the hotel for a night as a group
or on your own i get the impression that there is a presence
that something was watching me as i walked round the hotel

for the night will be interesting go on are you a coward

1. Never Trespass on private property This rule is especially true at private residences and always be careful around vandalized cemeteries that are closed at night. Many of these places are posted, so always get permission first.

4. Let someone know where you are going It is common sense to leave word with someone as to the investigation site....but be careful who you tell, you just might have a friend who likes to play practical jokes.

6. Arrive with skepticism While you should maintain an open mind, remember that the place may not be haunted. Always do your homework first and know what to look for to see if the place has ghosts or natural explanations.

7. False Readings Be careful that you learn to use your equipment properly before going to the investigation site. Always rule out all natural sources for EMF readings before you assume it is a ghost.
